Maps
Choose Maps to view any location in Australia. Use the Auto-Location function to find your whereabouts. The Address bar allows you to easily search for a location. Touchscreen devices allow for manipulation of Maps to zoom in and out and pan. On other devices maps can be controlled via pan and zoom buttons.
Nearby
The Nearby feature allows you to find a business, amenity or landmark near any location. You can search by entering a business name, place name or a keyword, or by selecting a category on the Nearby page. Once you’ve found what you are looking for you can view the location on a map, click to call the telephone number, save contact details or get directions.
My Places
Only available to Telstra customers, My Places in Whereis Mobile keeps a record of up to nine recently accessed locations and allows you to save a further nine favourites so that you don’t have to enter a complete address every time.
You can rename saved locations in My Places, so they are meaningful to you, or delete entries anytime.
Directions
You may have the option to use your current location when looking for directions. Once you have been located or you have entered a start address go to Get Directions. You'll see a map of the route and can click on the step by step instructions for more detail. Your directions will default to car with tolls and you can change that by clicking on the link on your route overview to see No Tolls, or Walking. When viewing a Map you can easily get directions from there to a destination of your choice. You can also swap the start and end place, using the Swap link.
You can get directions to a business or place address as your predefined destination. Click the Swap link to instead get directions from that business or place.
During your route, you can change your destination, by selecting Directions From Here on the route overview.
Everyone
Telstra users have access to a great tool called Whereis Everyone, which allows you to register other Telstra users, like friends and family, so you can see each others locations.
There's no need to be worried about privacy as all users have to agree to be located and you can choose to be "invisible" at any time.
For more information including charges for the service go to http://everyone.whereis.com on your computer.
Auto-location & Address Entry
Using the locate me button next to the search box will use your devices GPS unit to locate you. Auto-Location allows Telstra users to be approximately positioned based on the nearest mobile phone tower. The closer you are to a tower, the more accurate this is likely to be. We are usually able to locate your position within a 200-300m radius in metropolitan areas. When Auto-Location is available, your approximate location will be shown on the homepage. Whereis Mobile will use this address for Maps, Nearby and Directions. If you need to change locations select the 'change' link on the Maps or Nearby page or click on 'Start Place' or 'End Place' in Directions. When Auto Location is unavailable you'll be prompted to enter an address.
Telstra users can also use 'My Places' to recall recent and saved addresses to save typing again.
